Cold-formed steel (CFS) members are created from structural steel coils that are shaped into C-sections by roll formers. No heat is necessary to form the shapes, unlike hot-rolled steel, hence the name cold-formed steel. A variety of steel thicknesses are available to meet a wide range of structural and non-structural applications.
Due to its lightweight nature, exceptional strength, fire resistance, and ease of installation, cold-formed steel (CFS) framing is the ideal choice for walling systems in nearly all types of construction.
SBS typically recommends using CFS for both internal and external walling, delivering a higher quality insulated and finished wall at a better price and in less time compared to block work.
